On November 2, 2023, a ceremony and lecture were held at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) for the appointment of Professor Anjan Bose, a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering and a foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, as a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Tsinghua University. Professor Kang Chongqing, Dean of EEA, and more than 50 faculty members and students attended the appointment ceremony and lecture. The ceremony was presided over by Associate Professor Yu Zhanqing, Deputy Dean of EEA.

During the appointment ceremony, Professor Kang Chongqing presented the appointment certificate as a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Tsinghua University and the certificate as a Distinguished Visiting Expert at the Energy Internet Innovation Research Institute, Tsinghua University to Professor Anjan Bose.

Professor Anjan Bose delivered an academic lecture

Following the appointment ceremony, Professor Bose gave a specialized academic lecture titled “Evolution of Distribution Operation and Control”. In his presentation, Professor Bose elaborated on the historical evolution of digital technologies for high-capacity power operation and control since the 1960s, with a focus on the development and application progress of Distribution Management Systems (DMS) in distribution networks. After the lecture, faculty and students engaged in lively discussions with Professor Bose on the ongoing rapid development of DMS and its implications for the widespread adoption of distributed generation, energy storage, and active loads.

Professor Anjan Bose, a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, a foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and an IEEE Fellow, has served on several committees of the National Academy of Engineering and the National Research Council. He was appointed as the Vice Chair of the U.S. Government’s Committee on Science and Technology Guidance. Professor Bose has received accolades such as the Outstanding Educator Award in Electrical Engineering (1994), the IEEE Millennium Medal (2000), and the Herman Halperin Electric Transmission and Distribution Award (2006). He is the director of the Power Engineering Research Center at the National Science Foundation and holds the Regents’ Professorship at Washington State University. Professor Bose has held leadership roles as the dean of the College of Engineering and Architecture and the dean of the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Washington State University. He has been an editorial board member for several IEEE and McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia publications in science and technology and has chaired numerous international technical committees and conferences.
