On January 10, Professor Gareth Taylor, Director of the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering and the Brunel Interdisciplinary Power Systems (BIPS) Research Center at Brunel University London, was invited to visit the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) at Tsinghua University. He delivered a lecture titled “Exploring the Development of the Common Information Model (CIM) to Support Future Large-scale Resource Integration into Power Systems”. Professor Kang Chongqing, Dean of EEA, presented Professor Gareth Taylor with the appointment certificate as an Outstanding Visiting Scholar at the Tsinghua University Energy Internet Innovation Research Institute. The lecture was attended by more than 20 faculty members and students, including Professor Cheng Lin, Associate Professor Hu Zechun, and Assistant Researcher Qi Ning.

Professor Gareth Taylor’s Academic Lecture

Professor Cheng Lin, Vice President of the State Key Laboratory of New Type Power Systems Operation and Control and a professor in EEA, chaired Professor Gareth Taylor’s academic lecture. During the lecture, Professor Gareth Taylor systematically introduced the international standardization, logical framework, and applications of the Common Information Model (CIM) in the European electricity market. Following the presentation, faculty and students from EEA engaged in in-depth discussions with Professor Gareth Taylor on topics such as CIM model extension, data markets, and TSO-DSO data interaction.

At Professor Gareth Taylor’s academic lecture

Professor Gareth Taylor is the Director of the Brunel Interdisciplinary Power Systems (BIPS) Research Center and served as the Dean of the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at Brunel University London from 2019 to 2023. He has authored over 300 research papers, and his current research interests include power system operation, smart grids, renewable energy systems, power system information systems, and communication systems. He is an IET Fellow, IEEE Senior Member, Chair of the IEEE PES PSOPE TSO-DSO Interaction Task Force, and actively involved in several IEEE Power and Energy Society and CIGRE international working groups and task forces. He was also appointed as a regular member of the CIGRE D2 “Information Systems and Telecommunication” Study Committee for the UK (2016-2022). From October 1, 2023, to September 30, 2026, he was appointed as a Visiting Professor at the Control and Power Research Group in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Imperial College London.
