On April 28, coinciding with the 113th anniversary of Tsinghua University, and aiming to promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements and further advance industrial development in the field of energy internet, Tsinghua Sichuan Institute (hereinafter referred to as the Institute) held the inaugural meeting and the first session of the Industrial Development Committee in the West Main Building of Tsinghua University. Thirteen committee members from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, government authorities, leading enterprises, research institutes, as well as relevant departments of Tsinghua University attended the meeting. Members of the “One Department, Two Institutes” leadership team, alumni representatives from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA),  and heads of functional departments and research centers of the Institute, Tsinghua University also participated. The meeting was divided into two stages: the establishment ceremony and the first session, chaired by Lu Zongxiang, Executive Vice President of the Institute, and Li Licheng, Honorary Director of the Expert Committee of Southern Power Grid Company and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Establishment Ceremony

Kang Chongqing, Dean of EEA and President of the Institute, delivered the opening speech and provided a detailed introduction to the work of “One Department, Two Institutes”. He emphasized that the establishment of the Industrial Development Committee by the Institute is a concrete practice and an important measure to further open up the channel for the transformation from innovation chain to industrial chain. He hoped that the Industrial Development Committee could leverage the wisdom and expertise of its members to provide decision-making references and guidance for the industrial development work of the Institute.

Liu Wanhua, Vice President of the Institute, read out the list of committee members of the Industrial Development Committee and related information. After careful consideration and comprehensive evaluation by the Institute, it was decided to appoint 17 well-known technical experts, industry management experts, entrepreneurs, and capital experts, including Academician Li Licheng, as members of the Industrial Development Committee of the Institute.

First Session

At the subsequent first session of the Industrial Development Committee, Guan Jingru, Director of the Industrial Development Department, and Liu Yi, Vice President of the Institute, respectively reported on the charter of the Industrial Development Committee and the work plan for industrial development. Committee members deliberated and approved the charter of the Industrial Development Committee, highly affirming the achievements of the Institute in team building, scientific and technological innovation, achievement transformation, as well as institutional and mechanism innovation. Based on their own work experience and research fields, committee members put forward a series of guiding suggestions regarding national major strategies and industry development trends for the industrial development work of the Institute, emphasizing the importance of industry-university-research collaboration and think tank construction.

Academician Li Licheng, Director of the Industrial Development Committee, delivered the concluding speech. He stated that the meeting had put forward many constructive and pragmatic suggestions for the future development of the Institute. Regarding the next steps for the Institute's development, Li Licheng pointed out that the Institute should be based on the Tsinghua brand, grasp the pulse of the times, maintain its forward-looking position, focus on the vigorous development of new energy, and tackle key bottlenecks. He advocated for the "establish first, break later" working method, daring to explore new research and industrial directions, and discover research and commercial value. At the same time, he also provided analysis and suggestions on the key technology directions and geographical areas that the Institute should focus on.

The establishment of the Industrial Development Committee of the Institute is conducive to further integrating industrial resources, fully leveraging the decision-making consultation and evaluation role of experts, and laying a solid foundation for accelerating the cultivation of new quality productivity and advancing the industrial development work of the Institute to a new level.
