Recently, young teacher Li Chuanyang from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA), Tsinghua University was granted the JPhyD Emerging Leaders Award by the Institute of Physics (IOP) in the UK, in recognition of his outstanding contributions in the field of key technologies and equipment for direct current gas-insulated lines (GIL). This award is presented globally every one to two years and primarily honors excellent young scholars who have completed their PhD within the last ten years, conducted original research in related fields, achieved innovative research results, and made outstanding contributions in their respective areas of study.

Li Chuanyang graduated with a PhD from Tsinghua University in 2018. He has conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Bologna, the University of Connecticut, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. In June 2022, he joined EEA at Tsinghua University as an assistant researcher. His main research areas include insulation theory, design, online monitoring, and defect detection technology for high voltage equipment. He has published over 150 papers, with more than 10 as first author or corresponding author selected as ESI highly cited and cover papers, and has won over 20 various international paper awards. He serves as an associate editor for High Voltage, CSEE Journal of Power and Energy Systems, and IEEE Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation. He has previously received the 2020 IEEE Caixin Sun & Stan Grzybowski Young Scholar Achievement Award, the 2022 IEEE Steven Boggs Young Scholar Achievement Award, and the first prize of the 2023 Beijing Natural Science Award (second author).
