On July 13, Bob Cryan, Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, Honorary President of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Huddersfield in the UK, was appointed as a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Tsinghua University during the 20th IET International Conference on AC and DC Transmission (ACDC 2024). Associate Professor Yu Zhanqing, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA), Tsinghua University, presented the appointment certificate to Professor Bob Cryan. The ceremony was attended by Professor He Jinliang, Chair of the Academic Committee of EEA, Assistant Professor Zhao Biao, Associate Research Fellow Yuan Zhichang, Associate Research Fellow Zhuang Chijie, Associate Professor Wu Jinpeng, Assistant Researcher Qu Lu, Assistant Researcher Cui Bin, and others.

The ACDC 2024 International Conference was jointly hosted by the IET, Tsinghua University, the Huairou Laboratory, and China Electric Equipment Group Co., Ltd. Professor Bob Cryan served as Co-Chair of the conference and delivered a speech. Following the appointment ceremony, he and Professor He Jinliang granted prizes to the authors of outstanding papers presented at the conference.

Bob Cryan is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, Honorary President of the IET, and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Huddersfield. At the age of 30, he was first appointed as a lecturer and became the youngest engineering professor in the UK. In 2007, he was appointed Vice-Chancellor of the University of Huddersfield, making him the youngest university vice-chancellor in the UK at that time. By January 2007, the total student population at Huddersfield University exceeded 22,000, representing over 120 countries. Bob holds two first-class honors degrees (in Engineering and Mathematics), an MBA, and two doctorates (PhD, DSc). He is also a Chartered Engineer, a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, and a member of the Higher Education Academy in the UK. Additionally, Bob Cryan serves as the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire. In 2013, he was awarded The Guardian Inspiring Leader Award. In 2014, during the Queen's birthday celebration, he was honored with the Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE). In the same year, he joined the Chartered Management Institute. In 2015, he received the Daily Telegraph Educate North Inspiring Leader Award and was named one of the world's top 50 frontier engineers, becoming a member of the Royal Academy of Engineering.
