From September 21 to 22, the 12th Engineering Doctorate Forum, hosted by the Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Electronics (EEA) and organized by Shandong Taikai High Voltage Switch Co., Ltd., was successfully held in Tai’an. The forum focused on the theme “Innovation Driven Development, Technology Leading the Future,” following the forefront of technology in academic exchanges and stimulating innovative thinking. It provided a platform for mutual learning and exchange among engineering doctorate mentors, doctoral students, and corporate representatives, further promoting the high-quality training of engineering doctoral students in the department. The forum was chaired by Professor Gao Wensheng, a responsible professor of the Engineering Doctorate program.

During the opening remarks, Professor Jiang Qirong from the Energy Power Expert Group congratulated the successful holding of the forum. He noted the department’s ongoing efforts to enhance interaction and exchange activities for engineering doctoral students, aiming to strengthen mentor guidance and ensure high standards for innovative engineering doctoral theses. Liu Bo, an engineering doctoral student admitted in 2022 and the Party Secretary and Chairman of Shandong Taikai High Voltage Switch Co., Ltd., delivered a welcome speech, warmly greeting the attending faculty and students. He introduced the development history and achievements of Taikai Group and Taikai High Voltage Switch Co., Ltd., stating that the department provides a platform for engineering doctoral students to showcase research results and academic progress, promoting mutual inspiration among faculty and students, broadening horizons, and achieving mutual benefits to contribute to technological advancement and industrial development.

The forum lasted two days, focusing on in-depth discussions on multiple themes, including power systems, motors and electrical appliances, and new energy technologies. Professor Li Yongdong from the department delivered an expert report on the cultivation of creative talents. Engineering doctoral students Yang Wei, Li Zhenchao, Liang Zhifeng, and Li Yongjun presented reports on “Research and Application of Power Carbon Emission Factors,” “Current Research Status and Application Prospects of Electromagnetic Launch Technology,” “Experience Exchange on Power Supply Assurance during Peak Summer,” and “Exploration of New Energy Station Inspection and Large Model Application,” respectively. Liu Bo completed the topic report session, where engineering doctoral students detailed the background research and current achievements of their theses. The attending mentors provided feedback on the doctoral students’ thesis progress and research results, offering specific suggestions and higher requirements for future research work.

During the technical exchange session, faculty and students visited the Taikai Group, high voltage switch production line, experimental hall, and green low-carbon flexible intelligent microgrid industrial park.

The successful holding of this forum will further promote innovation in the training model for engineering doctoral students, enhance the deep integration of industry, academia, and research, and inject new vitality into technological innovation and industrial development.

The “EEA’s Engineering Doctorate Forum” is an academic exchange platform organized by the department, where enrolled engineering doctoral students can freely apply to host events, typically held every 3 to 4 months. The forum encourages students to report on thesis progress and showcase research achievements, aiming to strengthen the management of the engineering doctorate training process while stimulating innovative thinking and promoting project collaboration. Since December 2020, the department has successfully held twelve Engineering Doctorate Forums in various locations, including Beijing, Changzhou, Qingdao, Chengdu (online), Fuzhou (online), Xining, Guangzhou (online), Shanghai, Yantai, Beijing, Chengdu, and Tai’an.
