Abstract:
A robust and capable STEM workforce has been identified as critical to economic growth. STEM is not only advancing cutting edge industries, but is also becoming essential to virtually every industry from transportation and retail to medicine and manufacturing. STEM education has concomitantly become the subject of much hype and an increased percentage of education budgets.
This proposed talk will present new initiatives for teaching STEM including efforts to use information technology to reduce attrition rates in STEM programs. It aims to stimulate discussion around current STEM education approaches and practices as both the U.S. and China strive to answer the challenges of ensuring there is a ready and qualified STEM workforce for both today and tomorrow.
