Multiphase Drives Control under Constraints Challenges and Opportunities

Ass. Prof. Ngac Ky NGUYEN has been with the Laboratory of Electrical Engineering and Power Electronics of Lille (L2EP) in Arts et Métriers ParisTech, France, since 2012. His research interests include Modeling and Control of Synchronous Motors, Power Converters, Fault-Tolerant Control and Fault Detection and Localization for Multiphase Drives. He has authored and co-authored more than 50 scientific papers, almost in IEEE Journals and Conferences and 5 book chapters (Wiley and Elsevier Hermès). He reviews regularly for IEEE TIE, IEEE PE and other well-known journals.

In this lecture, Multiphase Drives will be presented as a good candidate for specific applications. Firstly, a short presentation of L2EP laboratory will be reported. Then the Generalized Vectorial Formalism is presented for modelling a Multiphase Drive. By using this formalism, several control algorithms have been proposed and successfully applied to some industrial applications. Constraints on physical limitation of the drive have also been questioned and dealed by proposing to use the properties of Multiphase Drives. Power Electronics Topologies used in Multiphase Drives have also an important role to increase the reliability and the performance which are the key points of Multiphase Drives.

Since Fault-Tolerance is one of interesting feature that Multiphase Drives propose, then Fault Detection and Localization must be considered. This lecture will show how faults will be identified by using properties of Multiphase Drives.
