Key Technologies Researches on the AC/DC Hybrid System Real Time Simulation based on Computers and RTDS, supported by National Development and Reform Commission and China Southern Power Grid (2007 – 2010)

It is significant for the theoretical researches and industry to implement the online real time hybrid simulations based on the parallel calculations of electromechanical dynamics using computers and electro-magnetic progress using RTDS.

Wide-area Information based Power System Security Early Warning, Protection and Control Theory and Method, supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China (one branch of a major project, 2005 – 2009).

This project carries out researches on the key theories and technologies of power system security assessment, protection and control based on PMU/WAMS.

WAMS based Multiple HVDC Links Adaptive and Coordinated Damping Control, supported by China Southern Power Grid (2005 – 2008)

Chao Lu, Jingbo He

The researched and implemented control system is the first case of WAMS based close loop damping controller in the world, which have been commissioned in Oct. 2009, after trial operations and field disturbances tests. The system damping ratio and transfer capacity can be greatly enhanced. This project was awarded the First Prize of Chinese Electrical Power Technology Award in 2008.

The control performances have been validated in field and appraised by experts, and this system was also commissioned. This project was awarded the First Prize of Chinese Electrical Power Technology Award in 2009.

Development of ±50Mvar Advanced Var Compensator, supported by State Power Grid and Shanghai Power Grid (State Power Grid Major Science and Technology Project, 2004 – 2006)
